UED 102, or more usually known as study skill In this course, we will study how to adjust to a new setting, particularly for freshmen entering university life. After beginning their university careers, some people may experience what is known as culture shock since, as far as I'm concerned, university life and school life couldn't be more dissimilar.

TOPIC 1: GETTING READY TO LEARN

Making The Transition (from school to university)

So like I say before university life its really different from school life and the challenges its more tough than you think so we need to take all the important information from what we learn in UED 102 and transfer that to the real life.

Characteristics Of Successful Student

1.ATTEND ALL CLASSES

To ensure that we do not miss any crucial information regarding any of the courses we take, it is imperative that students attend all of their lessons.

2.Become an active learner

You must be involved in all facets of university life, including academics and extracurricular activities, in order to gain a good head start on your final semester.

3.Participate in class

Since you can't take the final test if you don't have enough credit hours, it is imperative that you attend all of your classes as a student.

4.Get to know your lecturer

If there is something you are learning that you don't understand, make sure the instructor is aware of it by asking them.

5.Form study group with friends

You can ask questions if there is anything you don't understand while studying and share your thoughts on the teachings, which can not only benefit us in the class but also improve friendships.

6.Stay up to date with your work.

Many first-year university students struggle with their assignments, especially since they can't manage their time effectively and don't have enough time to do them. The greatest strategy, in my opinion, is to complete assignments right away.

7.Be receptive to change

Some people struggle to learn not just because they don't comprehend the material, but also because of how they learn, which is why we should be flexible and use whichever method works best for us.

8.Work hard this semester

As you are aware, I enrol in seven subjects totaling seventeen credit units. I must complete at least two tasks for each subject, making a total of fourteen assignments. This means that studying must be squeezed into the minimum daily time commitment of two hours.

APPENDIX 1: LEARNING STYLE INVENTORY

At the end of this survey I found that my learning style is more towards auditory and kinesthetic so I need to use this method to help my learning. For me this survey is very helpful for us to identify our more effective way of learning.

TOPICS 2: GOALS SETTING

(credit: google)

  •       Goals is something that you want to achive in the specific time.
  •         Goals will make you more aware of your life purpose.
  •         If you have goals it will encourage you and make you put more effort to get your own goals.

(Setting your goals)

·        In your goals you must have…….

1.     There should be clear objectives, and those objectives should not merely be fantasies.

2.     A definite time by which you will accomplish your objectives, since without one you won't be able to determine the ideal moment to begin.

3.     To ensure that you never forget your objectives, write them down.

4.     Create a strategy for achieving your goal before a deadline.

5.     Choose what you are willing to give up in order to achieve your goals because you have to work hard to attain what you want.

6.     To consider your goals every day to increase your motivation to achieve them

                       APENDIX 2: SMART GOAL FORM

DO YOUR OWN SMART GOALS MAP

This is the goals map I created my UED class, and it has been a huge help in determining my long-term goals and what I want to do before I graduate. On the other hand, this map motivates me to work hard in my studies so I can accomplish my goals by 2024. This chart should be very helpful to you in determining your age-appropriate goals.

To achieve your goals.

You must take into account both your strengths and shortcomings because, in order to achieve our goals, we cannot disregard our flaws; rather, we must learn to turn them into our strengths.

(LEARNING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM)

  •         I learn
  •         U future

This u future website was created by UiTM to mediate between student and lectures to facilitate various matters such as sending notes to students, filling in class attendance and more so this web its really helpful you as student.

TOPICS 3: LIBRARY & CAMPUS RESOURCES

On 17/11 my classmate and I visited Tun Abdul Razak Library assisted by library instructors to explain the facilities and rules found in libraries. In that tour I get a lot information about it for example I know an easy way to find the book we are looking for by using the computers placed throughout the library.  in addition, the students can also borrow every book in the library on the condition that the book must be returned within 2 weeks otherwise the student can be charged a compound of 20 cents.  Besides that, PTAR also has a cafeteria for students to eat there.  the food provided is also very appetizing and most importantly the price is also very reasonable.  last but not least, PTAR also provides various facilities such as a rest room for students to take time to rest and there is also a convention room that can hold various events at the place.  In conclusion, we need to take care of every facility in Tun Abdul Razak's library and we also need to follow every rule that has been set by the library so that this library can be used for a longer period of time.

TOPICS 4: TIME MANAGEMENT & ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

5 STRATERGIES TO DEVELOP A SUCCESSFUL SYSTEM OF STUDY

  •         USE WEEKLY SCHEDULE
  •         USE A DAILY PLANNER
  •         USE A SEMESTER CALENDAR
  •         BALANCE ACADEMIC WITH SOCIAL AND PERSONAL DEMANDS
  •         AVOID PROCRASTINATION

USE WEEKLY SCHEDULE

we need to make a weekly schedule to make it easier for us to know what things need to be done during that one week and this can also prevent us from missing anything that needs to be done.

APPENDIX 4: FIXED COMMITMENT

This is an example of a weekly timetable that you can create for yourself. Make sure to include at least two hours each day for study time in the programme.

      DON’T PROCRASTINATION WORK

Some people really like to procrastination a work because they think why they need to do the work early if they can do it in the last minute. This is some reason why people always procrastination a work.

(credit: google)

As students, we must find a solution to the issue of work procrastination because it cannot exist in a student because it will be the biggest barrier to that person's success. Therefore, we must approach the issue in the following manner:

1. Be aware of what you need to do.

2. Establish due dates

3. Make use of planners or a schedule

4. Must understand priority

5. Divide a task into several steps.

6. Complete the difficult assignment first.

7. Modify your approach to the work.

8. Take pleasure in the action.

9. Create incentives for success in the form of awards.

(ADVANTAGES OF BEING ORGANISED)

1. Maintain discipline and meet deadlines

2. Lessen the stress brought on by a sense of helplessness regarding your work schedule.

3. Finish tasks under less time pressure and reach your full potential.

4. Increase your belief in your capacity to handle situations

S. Steer clear of needing to juggle multiple tasks at once and overlapping assignments.

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS

Student must alert about time management because its really important for student to highlight it.

  • 1. Consider rewards for challenging tasks.

    2. Start with the most painful duties

    3. Develop the ability to refuse

    4. Create a transformation plan (involve others and asks for help if needed)

    5. If you're too busy, consider what is absolutely necessary.

    6. When feasible, delegate to someone else (delegate)

    7. Completely. You come away feeling inspired and rejuvenated.

    8. Focus on one item at once.

    9. Delegate the smaller decisions to others.

    10. Spending one minute in advance can save four or five minutes when carrying out a task.

    11. Take advantage of the extra time once you have it.

APPENDIX 6: PRIORITIZED TO DO LIST

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED

STUDENT ALWAYS NEED TO BE MOTIVATED TO ENSURE THE STUDENT HAVE NICE MOMENTUM TO PROCEED THEIR STUDY SO HAVE A LOT STEP TO MAKE SURE HOW SOMEONE OR ESPICIALLY STUDENT CAN STAY MOTIVATED EVERYDAY.

  •         STUDY IN ONE HOUR BLOCK
  •         TAKE BREAKS
  •         TACKLE DIFFICULT ASSIGNMENTS FIRST
  •         SWITCH SUBJECTS
  •         BREAK TASKS DOWN
  •         LEARN TO SAY NO
  •         WORK AHEAD
  •         PIN REWARDS

TOPICS 5: MEMORY, LEARNING, IMPROVING CONCENTRATION AND READING SYSTEM

MEMORY & LEARNING

(credit: google)

Learning pyramid its really helpful for guide you to memorize something. I have try this method and its really effective because I can memorize something in a short time. therefore I really suggested this way especially for student who will face the exam.

HOW FORGETTING COULD OCCUR

The biggest issue is when we memorise something but readily lose it for a variety of reasons:

1. I didn't focus on the information.

2. Did not comprehend the data

3. rushing (last minute study)

4. lacked effective techniques

 5. Interference (having 2 exams on the same day especially if the subject are closely related; for example psychology and counselling)

6. Test phobia (did not prepare well the test)

Because I experience the same issue, particularly when a test is approaching, students cannot ignore the issue of forgetting what they have learned.

APPENDIX 7: MEMORY STRATERGIES

APPENDIX 8: ORGANIZATIONAL STRATERGIES

Some people find it unusual that their exam scores, despite their dedicated study habits, are still subpar, but I am positive that the student will succeed if they put all of their effort into improving their grasp of each subject in class. There are numerous factors that could prevent a student from paying attention in class, such as:

1. Failure to pay attention

2. A lack of enthusiasm

3. A lack of enthusiasm

4. Isolation from other people

5. Uncomfortable surroundings

6. Physiological issues, such as illness and fatigue

7. Psychological issues, including personal issues, concerns, and anxiety

So you need to improve your concentration because its really important especially for you as a student. This is I put the way how to improve our concentration:

&

APPENDIX 10: CONCENTRATION CHART

TOPICS 6: TAKING LECTURE NOTES

                                           APPENDIX 11 : READING TEXT

Taking notes during lectures is quite important since they will enable you to review the information if you forget it after listening to or watching something. This strategy has shown to be very beneficial for me because I used it to prepare for the SPM in high school. This is how I always make sure I remember what I learned in class. Your notes should be engaging and well-organized so that you can read them quickly. Your notes, in my opinion, should be split equally between content and arrangement. this is due to the fact that it will help keep you from becoming tired of reading the notes. I've listed my justification here why take a lecture note is really important:

                     APPENDIX 12: NOTE TAKING STRATERGIES

PREPARE BEFORE TAKING LECTURE NOTE:

  • READY YOURSELF FOR CLASS BY READING THE INFORMATION YOU WILL LEARN
  • YOU MUST BE INFORMED ON THOSE TOPICS
  • YOU MUST BE AWARE OF THOSE AREAS
  • IN THE ORGANISE FORM, WRITE THE NOTE.
  • SEE TO IT THAT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH ALL THE TERMS IN THE NOTE.

EFFECTIVE NOTE TAKING SYSTEM

(THE CORNELL METHOD)

I really suggested this method because this method it will guide you to create a proper and nice note;

THIS IS EXAMPLE OF  CORNELL NOTE

NOTE TAKING EXERCISE USING CORNELL METHOD

THREE WAYS TO REVIEW YOUR NOTE:

1.     RECITE FROM THE HEADINGS

2.     RECITE FROM THE RECALL QUESTION

3.     TALK ABOUT THE INFORMATION WITH OTHERS

TOPICS 7: ACADEMIC INTERGRITY AND PERFORMANCE

PLAGIARISM:

copying other people's work and ideas without being known by that person in order to make it easier.

EXAMPLE OF PLAGIARISM:

  • ·        Turning in someone else work as your own
  • ·        Copying words or ideas from someone else without giving a credit
  • ·        Failing to put a quotation in quotation mark
  • ·        Giving incorrect information about the source of quotation
